PSC Elections
The seven PSC Commissioners have a crucial job—protecting the public from powerful monopoly utility interests. When power companies want to raise your energy bill or build a fossil fuel plant in your town, the PSC has the final call. We need qualified, well-educated, unbiased Commissioners to do this job.
Elections Process
PSC elections are run by the Public Utilities Review Committee (PURC), a committee of senators and representatives at the South Carolina Statehouse. PURC reviews candidate applications, administers a written exam, and holds public interviews. PURC then certifies a slate of candidates, and the entire South Carolina General Assembly votes on that slate. Learn more about PURC here.
As you can see, PSC elections are different from elections for lawmakers—Commissioners are more like judges than senators or representatives. The best way you can make your voice heard is to contact your South Carolina elected officials, who ultimately vote on the PSC.
2025 Elections
The Fall 2025 election process is now underway! These elections cover Congressional Districts 1, 3, 5, and 7. Public hearings of candidates are scheduled for December 2025, and the entire General Assembly will vote early in the 2026 legislative session. See below for candidates (scroll to see all candidates).
